Post by: Swampy on March 06, 2004, 09:20:42 AM
Yet another computer question from me... ;) So, Jef turned me on to Netscape a few months ago, and I really like it (no popups, spyware ect...) But I still have internet explorer and MSN and all that garbage that came with xp still on my machine. Can someone tell me how to make netscape my default browser and how to get rid of all the internet explorer crap??? THANKS!

I would think you can just uninstall it with "remove programs", no?

Yeah.  Open IE and go to Tools, Internet Options.  You can set your default browswer there.  Or I'm sure there's a "Make this default browser" button in Netscape.  I use Firefox so I can't tell you.

No.  The OS would cease to function if you somehow managed to remove IE from XP.  You can remove MSN explorer from there though.

Not true.  As part of their lawsuit there is now a way to remove IE from XP.  It doesn't remove all the components that XP needs to run explorer, but it does remove the program files for IE.

Don't ask me where it is, as soon as I could I removed it...but I've since moved on to Macs. ;)

Even if you could I don't see why you would want to.  Some pages only work in IE.

If you like netscape. You will love Mozila Firefox.  Tabed browsing is great.  Its free and open source.
