it says that it has the same feature set as the PMD670, but in a handheld version.  if it truely is the same feature set, this device will be limited to 16/48 recording.

a few european websites talk a little bit about a PMD671, a successor to the PMD670, which can supposedly do 24/96.  very little info out there about the PMD671, so only time will tell.

And It would even nicer if CF cards or microdrives were 20gb.  Nice technology by Marantz.  Definitely a starting point for the future.  Just another sign that DAT is own its way out.   :'(

This thing has a built in Mic Pre with Phantom power.  All you would nee to tape a show is the PMD660, 2 mic cables a stand and Mics.  You certainly can't do that with a JB3.  If the sound quality is good on this it should be pretty darn cool.  2 & 4 GB CF cards are out and not crazy money so this thing could be a pretty good option if you are looking for a minamilist rig.....

the pdm670 (different model) cannot handle any REAL sound pressure level without creating brickwall distortion (unless the analog stage is modified) -- I'd be real careful that the same wasn't the case with the 660 before dropping $ on it.

I have  however taped two shows with it using an external pre > line in and it works like a charm..

Thanks for pointing to this brickwalling thing. I am in doubt now...never had brickwalling problems before as i usually record through line-in.

I have a pair of AT831 and a preamp from JKlabs (with 3 db settings). The Marantz has two XLR so i guess i have to put something inbetween the preamp and the XLR to get the 3,5mm pin connected. Now, when recording a loud rock concert with this unit trough mic-in, should i go with or without the pre-amp? (any chance for brickwalling?)

Or should i just go for line-in (with preamp ofcourse)??

Sorry, maybe not the right forum..
