can you "zip" a file that is not already zipped,they r compressed flac files?

you can do it without any lost data, but i don't think there is much more compression to be had (like less than 1%).

so should i just leave it like it is,they are converted as flac and compressed at 8,and not worry about zipping the files

i think it probably makes sense to leave them as compressed flac files...leaving out the zip utility is one less process that can go wrong since there's not much benefit.

The only reason you might want to zip them is if for some reason you need one big file, like the freecache thing they have going over on archive.org these days. I personally dislike it because I like grabbing a track or two at a time...

yeah natey, phor what were doin, flacs are better.....and ya cant compress much more than 8.....6 is even fine, just perfect for me... ;)
