i have been using foobar2000 forever

Foobar.
Plays anything you can through at it, and has a TON of great plugins (Live Show Tagger is a must have for us IMO).

I'm a die hard foobar2000 fan. It's literally the main reason I still use Windows on my playback computer.

I agree.
Everyone should be using Live Show Tagger.

It looks plain out of the box, but it's endlessly customizable. Also if there's some function you need that isn't present in the default setup, there's probably a component that will do what you want.

What are you playing and how do you plan on hearing it? For instance, what laptop>DAC>sound system or headphones.
I have an iPhone XR with flacplayer and use the little Dragonfly usb DAC to my Sansui receiver>Klipsch Heresy's.

Laptop> DragonFly Red DAC>speakers. Don't really use cans. Listening to flacs and some wav files, and stream Tidal, which has its own app interface.

Wow, Foobar was easy to download. No gaps. 😀

It takes a little getting used to, but you can completely customize the layout of Foobar to fit your visual needs. There are many sites and YouTube videos to assist.
