Replacing my SLA's...
« on: October 04, 2009, 04:11:41 PM »
Since most of what I record tends to end up on my friend's ipahd I don't feel like spending the money to go to 24 bit.

I need to buy a replacement SLA or two for my P1.  Are there alternatives to SLA's now?

If not does anyone have a vendor that they like or are there any members with those kind of skills?  I wouldn't trust my handiwork with this sort of thing...

1) Most of us use "DVD Player Batteries"... originally designed to power those little laptop looking DVD players.  This is one of many sources out there, but $25 for a new one is a decent price.

Most of them put out 9V.  I expect that's fine for a DA-P1, but don't take my word for it.

2) Post "In Search of" SLAs in the yard sale.  Probably someone has some good used ones they will part with.

3) Also, there are some sources for replacing the "guts" of an SLA relatively cheap, like $20 if you pop the plastic case apart and solder or plug into the case so you maintain your connectors.

Hope that helps.

I personally wouldn't run 9V into a P1.  P1 is designed to run at 7.2V - when I had a P1 back in the day it ran with a 8.4V battery pack and it ran a little hot so I would suggest running less than that.

SLA's that where most used for the P1 was the 6V types.

You may want to look at 7.4V RC LiON batteries - such as:

This battery will run the P1 for about 10 hours.

You can still get a dvd battery just hack a cig adapter power plug that had the voltage selector on it. Works beautifully. I did it for a jb3 and ran it off the 9v batteries all day.
The one I have actually has a 7.5 v setting which still might be too much for the p1 but since you were running it off a 8.4v pack than 7.5 would probably work just fine and not very hot.

There are some DVD player batteries that put out 7.5 instead of 9V.  They look similar.
