Herbie's Halo Tube Dampeners
« on: March 10, 2005, 06:36:11 PM »
I recently purchased a couple of these for the signal tubes for my amplifier and I thought I'd share my experiences for those of you that might be interested.  To put it simply these dampeners made a pretty substantial difference in my system, the imaging seemed to tighten up and the sound became a cleaner and sounded more natural.  Of all of my minor tweaks and upgrades these have probably made the second biggest impact behind only upgrading my speaker cables, in my experience they made a much bigger improvement over replacing my power cords at a fraction of the price.  To all those with tubes I'd highly recommend trying them out, if they don't work out for you you can send them back within 90 days for a full refund.

You're welcome Tim.  I've had these for awhile now, I just wanted to wait until I became more acquainted with my amp for a review.  I think my next step will be picking up a set for my power tubes and some isolation feet for my amp and source.  If they're anywhere near as good as the signal tube dampeners it will be money well spent.

Are you using them on all the tubes?

I have them on my amp's small tubes but have not bought ones for the power tubes yet.

Right now I only have them on my 12AX7 and 12AU7 tubes, I'll be ordering a pair for the power tubes shortly.

I bought one, it seemed to have a subtle impact on sound quality but I really haven't had the chance to sit down and do a thorough AB comparison.  Once I sit down and compare I'll let you know what I think.

Looks like your interconnects have a cock ring.

But seriously... did you get the Black or white ones, they seem to be made of different materials, i wonder if it makes a difference...

I don't know about the IC rings but if they made half the improvement that the tube rings make they'd be money well spent IMHO.

I got the white ones, from what I understand that the white and black ones are made of different materials but that it doesn't make a difference in sound.

If anyone is interested in trying some of these for small tubes, I have white ones I would like to sell so I can replace them with the black ones.  Didn't matter until I removed the cage but now I think the dark ones would look better on the exposed tubes.

If you've had them for less than 90 days you can send them back for a full refund and use that towards some black ones.

Have those KT90's gone out?  If not, let's work a deal on the Herbies.  How many do you have?
