Help - Surround Sound System??
« on: December 11, 2005, 07:11:53 PM »
I looking to purchase a surround sound system.  I have not done much research yet.  Looking at Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver.  Any suggestions (Speakers/Receivers)?  My budget is about $5-6K.

the first thing you need to look at are speakers.  you are really going to want a sub as well to drive high end video.  one receiver i might suggest- a touch older, but a great integrated receiver is the denon 5803.  just wonderful

Does this unit have HDMI up conversion?  I also purchased a fujitsu HD plasma and only want to run one cable to it.

i do not believe it does hdmi at all- i believe it is component driven.

speakers:  http://www.ascendacoustics.com/

a friend has the cbm170's front and rear with cmt340 center in a 5.1 system.  he also said their customer service was excellent in addressing some shipping damage promptly with no questions asked.  30-day at home trial, too.

On these receivers with video upconversion, what chip are they using for this?  Faroudja FL2310? SI 504?

If your DVD player has this function with a better chip does the receiver have pass-thru?  You might want to also check out the new DVDO VP-30.  This would give you the best possible 720P over HDMI.  If your display has DVI you could look at the DVDO HD+
