V3 Current output
« on: September 18, 2003, 02:18:05 PM »
Anybody here know the current output through the phantom power circuit on the v3?  I have finally got around to reading my ST-250 manual and have found that you must run off of alkaline batteries unless the pre-amp can output 20mA of current, that is 10mA on each channel, through phantom power.  The only thing i have found in the v3 manual is on the very last page where it gives battery consumption, it has Phantom power on (20mA) with AD rated at 1000mA and Phantom power on (4mA) with AD rated at some lower current.  Well, how am i suspose to know which currrent is being put out?  The ST-250 manual says the mic will have high noise and low headroom if there is not enough current.  Anybody used the V3 to power the ST-250?  While I'm at it anybody know the current output of the m148?

thanks
Wes

ok, without using the manual... where should the width and polar pattern knobs be set if you want a pair of cardiods with 90 degrees between them?? :P

Well, how am i suspose to know which currrent is being put out?

it has Phantom power on (20mA) with AD rated at 1000mA and Phantom power on (4mA) with AD rated at some lower current.

The way current works is what's needed is drawn, no more, no less.  I read that spec as saying the v3 will provide up to 20mA on the phantom.  Then they tell you how much it affects the overall consumption for a hi and low range of phantom current (which is determined by your microphone - how hungry it is).

You are fine, even if the v3 spec is 20mA total (vs. 20 mA per channel).
