Topic: How to attach lapel mics to clips?

I'm sure this has a really obvious answer, but I'm not finding it. I bought a pair of lapel mics, and the clips came separate, and I'm struggling to figure out how to attach them. YouTube has videos on them, but I haven't found one that matches what I have. Pictures below will show you what I'm working with:

use your thumb to squeeze the tiny round ended protrusion on each spring clip to temporarily open up the circles, so they fit around the cylindrical mics
then rotate the clip if needed so it aims the mic properly for where it's affixed

Ok, so another question...what's the best way to clip these to a shirt? I'm trying at home to see the best way, and every time I even move an inch the mics flips up, or down, or the shirt covers it, etc. Any tips on how to get it to stay relatively stationary?

If you are stealthing I would recommend attaching the mics to a hat rather than a shirt  with Stealth height matters.  a little bit of fabric shouldn't interfere with sound too much (think windscreen)  for some applications you might also try a stronger clip like a "bulldog" or alligator or binder clip either in addition to or in place of the purpose drive mic  clip you posted.

I was taught to take some gaffers tape, and cover some panels of cardboard from a deconstructed AA battery box.
Now you have various small sizes of soft black grippy card pieces, to use behind the fabric, in order to stiffen the area where the clip is attached.


Or try spray starch on the shirt?


Also you can clip to these magnetic glasses holders, to place them where you like.
I put black gaff tape over the metal on mine so there's more place for the clip to grip.

What kind of clips are you using? I bought a pair of these and am having the same problem, the mic just flips up as soon as I clip it on there.

I don't use clippy mics actively for my live recordings, but I do deploy them professionally at work, for their intended purpose as body-worn personal vocal mics.
I used to use the little Radio Shack 33-1033 for live recording, and I clipped them onto my ballcap bill, or the sides of the cap right over my ears, or maybe on my glasses earpieces.
I can suggest that you try a shirt with heavier fabric so it can support the weight?
Secure the cables so they don't pull on the mic and aim it in a different direction than you intend?
