Post by: thebeaker on May 26, 2015, 06:05:17 PM
Hello, i have problems with this combination.
i set gain to -30db but still if i am talking into mic it clips. i Tried to record a local band which was njot that loud, it was totally distorted.
i die not use a batterybox, because oft mic in oft Panasonic. i tried mics with Olympus ls12 and had no problems.
do i need a batterybox with Panasonic Camcorder although it is mic in or why is it so sensitive?

thanks  :D

Most camcorders are very sensitive and not necessarily well matched to mics.

Some will have some settings you can adjust (external mic, level settings).  It sounds like you are attenuating it in those settings in the camera.  If it has a line in setting maybe try that?  You could try adding external attenuators in the connections.  That may not be enough if it is that far off though.

The Panasonic presumably does not supply any plug-in power on the microphone jack, so that would be a problem as well. A quick search on teh Olympus I couldn't tell whether it does, but it probably does supply some voltage on the mic-input. You need to power the CA14 with a battery box.
