can anyone recommend sub $200 headphones for the wife ?
« on: June 21, 2018, 07:44:40 PM »
she thinks the ATs are uncomfortable.

she doesn't like earbuds. she is also petite if that matters

I guess it would mostly revolve around AV multimedia vs. strictly audio.

Senn HD218 (open, lightweight)   Senn HD280  (closed)
Grado SR-60 or SR-80  Similar but the 80 has more bass, both great on transients and vocals

Neither will set you back much, both sound good but very different
Neither have ever left me fatigued
Both are easy to drive

...doesn't like AKGs !   I guess someone has to .....

I bought a pair of V-Moda XS a few years ago and still love them: https://v-moda.com/products/xs

The construction is rock solid, and you can replace the ear cups and cable, so they should last for years.  They fold up very compact, and they sound really good for my taste in music.  They make a 3-button cable with iPhone controls that I find uselful.  The mic on both cables (original and 3-button) has never gotten any complaints when using it for phone calls.

I like my Sennheiser HD280s and have been using them for years. They are kinda bulky and some people don't find them comfortable but I do. I have a big dome so that may not bode well for the fit on a petite lady...

Koss Porta Pro

Do not chuckle
They are flavored, but they are great for casual listening.
I would not consider mixing with them, but are amazing for what they are, at the $40  - $50 price point.

Take her to a headphone store so she can look, feel and listen. Everything else is just reaching in the dark.

Yeah, and then BUY them there, and not on the Amazons.

Sony MDRV6 / Sony MDR 7506 (can be had for $55-75, they’re essentially the exact same). I have AT m50’s and I find the Sony’s more comfortable. They are lighter, a little smaller.  Worth checking out. Lots of pro/studio credibility. Classics.

I own Sony 7506's, Grado SR 225's, and Senn HD 600's.

I like the sound of all of them for various reasons. But for extended listening periods I always reach for the Senn because of the open back design. I wear glasses and any headphone that sits directly on the ears gets awfully uncomfortable quite quickly.

Also, I have a pair of AT ATH-T22's that I'd be willing to send you for FREE if you cover shipping. PM if interested.
