Title: V.I.O POV.HD??
Post by: mblindsey on November 22, 2010, 07:24:31 PM

I think this is great form factor for mounting to a mic stand.  Anyone have any experience with them, or can tell by the specs if this might be suitable for low light concert vids?

Interesting. Would love to see some HD samples. I see the 1.5 vids on youtube but can not find any actual footage from the hd model.

/edit
was able to find a demo vid here.. http://pointofviewcameras.com/vio-pov-hd-camera.html
hard to tell what it would do in low light as its all used oudoors action shots.. a bit $$ but diggin it.

Looks decent but 2 big issues.....

I notice are it is specifically designed to be rather wide angle so would not be a great fit for concert recording.  You could do some cool stuff with placing the cam in a drum kit or on a vocal mic during a performance if you were doing something for a band.

The other issue to me is it appears to have what is called a rolling shutter which is common to I believe all CMOS sensors so that effect is rather noticeable in the demo vids they have posted.

Rolling shutter is a strange anomoly of the CMOS technology.  Moving objects are captured warping, bending, and tearing...

It's a cool effect, but not one that can be turned off.
