Need help with equipment? (what to buy, I'm new to this)
« on: July 15, 2007, 05:07:20 PM »
Hey all Tapers on this forum,

I'm totally new to taping, but I need a cheap walkman or something to record shows.
It's mainly my own shows that I want to record since i'm a guitarist and bluesharp player.
I can learn to play better by listening to my own recordings.
I've heard also that you must have something that records stereo and something not
with AGC. It's basicly a small portable cassette recorder that I'm looking for with
reasonable rec. quality. I guess it'd be nice if it were easy to hide.

Is there anyone that could point me into a direction of what to buy??
It must have been asked before, but I was not able to find such a thread.

And if I taped a show, how can I turn the analog signal into a digital signa, so I can
listen it on my pc or mp3 player?

I would appreciate if someone could answer these questions. I really don't know what to buy,
but i'm not planning to buy expensive stuff for this.

Thanks in advance,
Bluesboy

Look at the Zoom H2 or H4...  I've seen musicians using this to reference their shows.

Thanx for your message, that's not analog tho and way too expensive. I was more looking like something 50-90 dollars or something..
Is there any walkman out there that will record on tape recorder and can be hooked on a soundboard or is that not an option on the models of portable tape recorders out there?

A mini disc recorder might do it for you if cheap is what you want.
Don't buy a cassette recorder.

I agree.

I would save a little more cash. Then buy a Mini disc recorder (30 to 60 bucks) & a set of stealth mics. Like the church audio. (80 bucks in the retail section).

You want to be able to get a decent recording of what you actually sound like. If you plan on analyzing it.

What's 60 extra bucks to pull a decent recording of yourself?

Good luck.
