Topic: BIOS upgrade for 160 GB HD; thoughts ?

OK, I use a 'cage' system, so I can pop new HDs into the front of my PC.

just bought my first 160, and after lots of squirming, turns out my BIOS can not recognize that size and I need a BIOS upgrade in order to make it work.

not expecting much help from my Motherboard manufacturer, and  esupport is yet to call/email back.....

two questions: is there a cheap (free) source for BIOS upgrades, and is it even worth it to upgrade the BIOS (ie, will this cause other problems on my machine ?)

a bios upgrade isnt that difficult- make sure to save your settings to disk before you do it, and it often makes the system run more nicely

You should be able to download an upgrade from your motherboard manufacturer web site.  I've flashed my motherboard and optical drives on several occasions and have yet to bugger anything up.  Just follow the instructions exactly and everything should go swimmingly.

Whats the manufacturer of you MB.  usually they have a downloadable boot floppy w/ utility that will walk you through the process.
