so i did some more analyzing on some other files i've worked on:

24/48 file:    -5.048
added:        +5.000
16/44.1 file: -0.149

24/48 file:    -3.054
added:        +3.000
16/44.1 file: -0.138

the above files make sense and are pretty consistent with gordon. the only difference b/w the above examples and the one from the original post is the UV22HR dither step. these files were going 24/48>>16/44.1 as opposed to the original which was going 16/48>>16/44.1

Interesting, looks like most your guys' examples show a decrease in volume upon resample.  I've been using SF 8.0 doing some tests and I'm now noticing only increases of at most 0.5 dB when I resample a 24/48 file at the highest settings.  For the record there is no gain change after I then dither (triangular w/ ELC) the resampled file to 16-bit.

holy crap.... the one I've been using (audio desk/digital performer) is horrible.
i wonder what quicktime looks like on the best setting. I imagine pretty bad as well.

anybody have a clean converter such as R8brain they would recommend for a mac?

Sample Manager.. It uses the SRC and MBit Dither from Izotope and is a killer batching program...
