OKMIIR Studio mics?
« on: November 19, 2004, 07:09:17 PM »
Does anyone have experiencewith these mics?

I am interested in taping a few shows (stealth) but have read that, during quieter parts of the show, distortion is added?

What I don't want, is for a great tape to be spoiled by noise during an acoustic part.

Anyone has experience with these mics. please let me know,

Thanks!

make sure you get the IIR model. A couple of us were sent the wrong model.

Doubtful that the IIR model would produce distortion at low levels Maybe the battery needed to be changed in the mic battery box.

Thanks for the reply...have you used these mics. for an acoustic show?

Someone has asked me to tape a show for them, which will be mainly acoustic guitar...on the OKM website, one of the questions in the FAQ is:-

"11. My OKM “Rock” microphone gives feedback in quiet passages – is that normal?

Unfortunately, yes. The “Rock” version is only made for very high volumes, and should only be used for such volumes."

I don't want to tape it only to end up giving him a messed up recording...would like to know for sure beforehand so that maybe I could make some other arrangements.

email Rolf at Soundman from Germany. He seems like a nice guy and will give you the correct answer.

OK, here is the reply I got:-

"you must use the mic-in due of low soundpressure. Try to get as close
as you can to the stage.

The recording will be a little noisy, due of mic in preamp. and the
high record level you have to use.

Nevertheless you can record an acoustic guitar."

So is it worth taping an acoustic show with these mics?
