Title: Am I encoding for DVD correctly?

I'm just making sure that I'm encoding my avi files correctly, I noticed that the audio and wav files are significantly smaller than the intitial avi. While I understand MPEG-2 is a compression method, I am a perfectionist and demand the absolute optimal available quality with no sacrifice for space. let me run you through my process:

I have video recorded with a Canon Optura 20 Mini-DV.  I connect to my comp via firewire. I record the video using Windows Movie Maker, set to "DV-AVI 25 Mbps".  Then using TMPGE I open the .avi and encode with these settings:

BUT, I changed:

Frame Rate: 29.97 fps (for NTSC)

Video Format:  NTSC

Initial avi will always be gigantic compared to the DVD file (d2v + wav).  I use ScenalyzerLive instead of Windows MM 2.  Much more reliable and moves you  away from the Bill Gates dominance.  Best $40 I've ever spent.
