budget? :)

sorry ill keep one word questioning till i can figure something out thats right for you.

btw film is cheaper but you have to pay for film (bulk rolling it is the cheap way to go)

pretty sure you are only going to get into the 300mm zoom range if you are looking at an SLR.  digi-slr's typically will cost you no less than $700 for the body alone and several hundred more for the lens.  you can get into film slr's for substantially cheaper, but start adding the costs of film and processing in there and if you shoot a lot, it will catch up pretty fast.

500 for the body can get you a nice nikon f100 or one of the newer canon film slr's.

personally, as people around here know im pretty anti digital still, but something to consider on the digi realm is that the canon pro digital stuff is light years beyond where the nikon digital stuff is right now.  i might suggest if you wanted to go cheaper at first and work on your composition skills and your control of your camera going with a film canon eos body and get a couple of nice lenses over time.  then sell the body and get a digital body- there will be a market for the film bodies for a LONG time to come.
