Can't go crazy, but Sony earbuds ain't cutting it. Like to stay sub 100 bucks.

Hey Marc,

Shure SE215  $98.00 + shipping.  They replaced the popular Shure E2's.  Shure makes great earbuds.  Can't go wrong with them.  I switched to them from Sony 15 years ago and never looked back......

Yes, the Shure SE215 are great! I primarily got them for travel/work as I didn't like any of the usual noise-cancelling headphones. The Shures do an excellent job at isolating from outside noise and they sound fantastic. I even took them to a show last week and it worked great for quick monitoring of my recording.
The only thing that requires some getting used to is the way they are being worn, with the cable coiled around the ear. But after a while I actually started preferring that to usual earbuds.

Think sound ms1

+1

I got a set of them over a year ago due to your recommendation here on TS, raymonda, and I'm impressed.

I also got a pair of the thinksound ms01 about a year ago based on raymonda's recommendation. They sound great, but I can't seem to get them to stay in my ears very well, no matter which size of the rubber ear fittings I try.

Hey Marc, I got a pair of the Monster[I know :P lol] iSport Victory earbuds a cpl of years ago, and they are by FAR the best earbuds Ive ever heard or owned personally, and I had a TON of sub $100 earbuds! I paid $150 back then and thought they were worth every penny IMO! I saw them recently for around $100, so you should definitely check them out! They come with all kinds of accessories and stay in my ears wonderfully ;D I have the medium size tips and ear hook[?] in my iSport Victory's and they stay in my ear very snugly, even when yanking on the cable, since they were made for running/runners/exercise/etc! And they have a rotating head/tip to really sit in your ear canal perfectly, and works on just about everyone because they do rotate slightly! And on top of that, they sound great IMO! Truly the best earbuds Ive ever owned! I love the sound of headphones, but when earbuds sound that great, and are SOOO small compared to even the smallest headphones, its hard not to check them out :) 8)

The iSport "Victory" is what you want!

But def read this review first! They agree their great earbuds, but say that they arent that durable! Well, Ive had mine for about 2 years, and I use mine a LOT [like just wrapping them onto/around my FiiO E11K Headphone Amp and then putting them into a small AKG pouch that Ive had forever], and they have stayed in great condition, with the exception of the button on the mic, which I could care less about since I only use mine for music :) I just glued mine back on and no problems since! Took about 5 minutes total :) But they sound great[have I said that before :)] and as with anything, if you take care of it, then it will usually last a long time!

Best sounding earbuds I've used were JBLs that I picked up at Best Buy for around 25 bucks. Came with memory foam covers in a few sizes. Otherwise I use my full size Senn HD280s if I have room in my briefcase.

Best $100 earphones that I have are the Philips Fidelio S2. All metal construction and durable as all hell. Can't go jogging in them because they are fairly heavy, but no problems walking around or whatever.

I was thinking of picking up a set of the Shure 215 for jogging, but have heard that they are pretty bassy, and I prefer a flat, neutral sound signature. Are the 215s bassy?

I'm sorry, Bean, but those Monster earphones are awful. I had a set of the Monster iSport earphones and I took them jogging exactly once before the microphone control shorted out and I couldn't use the earphones without my iPhone or mp3 player going nuts. They were advertised as waterproof, to boot. They sounded decent, but the build quality was pure garbage.

The trick is making sure you have a good seal. Once they are set, they are very good sounding headphones that provide excellent isolation.

enjoy!

The new version of the thinksound is ms02: https://store.thinksound.com/products/ms02
$99 through them right now. I can't afford it atm, but have bookmarked it for a near future purchase.
Thanks Ray!

After trying out 6 pairs of ear buds from Shire, Sennhieser and others I can easily say that Think Sound MS 1 is still the king of budget in ears and it was not even close.

Any idea what the differences are between the old Thinksound ms01 and the new ms02?

I'm not sure. I would hope that there is not much different. Just make sure you have a good seal and you are in for a treat!
