Get a deck with multiple gain-ranged ADCs (such as a MixPre). They have really broad dynamic ranges, which allows you to run very conservative levels with no risk of an over. You can peak quite low and have no audible noise after amplification. Analog limiters provide a last ditch margin of safety.

so if you were to capture these blowouts, would you present them to the listener(s)?

Yeah! It was for goose 9/23 and phish 10/8. I deleted the original files, but I’ll upload a snippet of the phish show and share the archive link to goose (I have all the sections of distortion mentioned in the source info)

That’s for phish, the section of distortion is during BoaF, it was also on another source as well (so it wasnt just me!)

When this happens I go into the spot that is clipping and highlight it. Then use EQ on just the bass bomb and it cleans it right up. It’s not like I want to listen to that rattle my speakers or blow speakers in the car. We are all running our decks lower typically and when that shit hits it’s still going to go over.

This would be the perfect situation to run a good set of Guns or hypers instead of cards
I normally run @ -12db even @ 32bf. When i run into this ish I will sculpt the bass signal in post after normalizing. Almost always a drop spike @ 125hz and if the pull is kicky another drop spike around 50hz and an increase at 30hz and 100hz. Just my 2 cents but it appears to soften things up a bit while keeping the dynamics.
