Looking to purchase a batt box with small footprint to run between my AT mics and recorders. Wanted to see opinions on members views of the Church Ugly vs, Church Bat 2B boxes and/or Sound Pro's options for 9v power (although I m having trouble finding 9v batt box options on Sound Pros site, only 12v)

Sound pros SPSB 8 mkii
Same size as church ugly and way more reliable

Church Ugly has the smallest footprint. It's basically a cap atop the 9-volt battery. I've had one for years and it has never failed me.

Does the battery stay connected tightly? The bat 2 model looks more secure. I am accident prone and want to mitigate any possible user errors in my chain.

When did Church stop using the 9v cradle? The battery snaps in place, I would be weary of that top only clip.

I've had my UBB for a decade, and it's never had a cradle.
The clip is very secure. Occasionally if I have the box in my front pants pocket and sit down, it can get disconnected, but I've never had it come loose during a normal taping situation.

I own them both. They are both extremely reliable. I have to say that the SP one failed me once in use because the battery did not remain securely attached in the box and rattled a bit, interrupting the connection. As I recall, I may not have succeeded in snapping the cover all the way shut . So you could say that it was my fault, but of course the Church one doesn't have a cover that you have to shut correctly. An extremely rare occurrence, but in contrast the church ugly never once fail to me in years and years of use. I like them both, but in all candor the Church one is easier to use, particularly in terms of replacing the battery. Please note that I am only addressing the nature of the two battery boxes themselves, and not the ease of actually purchasing one or the other from the vendor. In that respect, it's a lot easier to buy a product from Sound Professionals than it is from Church Audio, especially in terms of delivery time.

That's the one. It's great, if Chris actually has any to ship in your or his lifetimes.

True that. Keep your eyes peeled for used ones

It is great indeed. I have 2 of them. Not planning on parting with any of them anytime soon.

Is 9V a strict requirement?
I've used a SP-SPSB-10 battery box for a bit over a decade now. It's been rock solid with my AT831's, but that battery box is 12V and not 9V. The batteries are a little less common than a household 9V battery, but I can still very easily walk into a grocery store or petrol station to grab one when I need it.
Meanwhile my Church Audio UBB shit the bed within a couple of months of owning it. Same as the CAFS I bought from him, they barely lasted a year with minimal use...
