Balanced or unbalanced preamp?
« on: October 11, 2011, 12:32:08 PM »
I am looking for good portable preamp. So some questions.
Will help balanced input reduce noise if i use short cables <50cm or preamp is mounted together with mic. How much? I will use Primo 172 and sometimes Panasonic WM61a with this preamp. For balanced inputs I am looking on preamps based on SSM219, INA217 and THAT1510. For unbalanced have no any decisions.
Quiet accoustic music will be recorded.

Primo EM-172 or Panasonic WM61 does not have differential outputs and cannot take advantage of a preamp with differential inputs. There are no need for balanced connections if you are useing short cables. Naiant Tinybox or Church Audio 9100, could be what you are looking for. For acoustic music needing more gain, Tinybox will be better suited, maybe with Primo EM-173 (lower distorsion than EM-172).
