-
no to ask a stupid question, but are you sure you unpaused it after you hit record?
-
I agree, you most likely did not hit actual record. You most likely just put it in monitor mode....

actually this could be the result of the Sony misload that happens at times....what type of tapes were you using?
-
I held down record and hit play and it sure did look like it was recording. I think when I rewound the tape I hit mode which switched to erase. Any thoughts??
-
I didn't even know such a thing existed. If it does, it must be a paid to do, as I haven't even hit that button on my m1!

I will take a look when I get home...but I have never noticed such a function on my d100
-
sounds like the classic misload
-
it was in monitor mode, apparently. :( ye if you click mode youll see erase come up on the right side of the screen, you may have to press it 2-3 times but its there. I didnt hit pause after rec so I believe that where my problem is.....live & learn.
-
i can assure you that you aren't the first person to forget to unpause after hitting record. live and learn. 8)

As a suggestion, I will usually record approx. 10 seconds of crowd noise prior to the actual start of the show. Just to make sure everything loaded properly and recording correctly.... :headphones:
I know it doesn't help you much in this case, just some food for thought.

thanks for the advice ;) will it still show levels & show how much time it would be recording? because the levels were jumping and it definately seemed like it was recording

Make certain that once recording should begin, that the display reads "write". The recording time and metetering should be there as well. After abou 10 seconds or so of recording, re-wind and confirm recording actually took place.

one thing with sony dats is that you HAVE to let it go through all of its loading activities (on my d100, it can take ~20 seconds) before you hit record. Otherwise, it is likely you will have loading issues. I usually hit pause/record, it goes through all of this, and then when the show starts, unpause it...ready to go.

nice +T to all for the help. I had already loaded the tape a week ago because i had planned on taping phish but never got my equiptment in.

Hey there - I would try to see if you have a leader making the tape appear blank.
You may have put a leader on the tape without recording A-time. When you go to play back, the tape looks blank. When it starts to flash blank hit play again or fast forward and it will go past. See if there isn't a recording somewhere in the middle of the tape...
If you started taping from the top of the tape - probably not the problem. Surprised no one suggested this earlier - though it may not be the problem at all...
Peace,
goose

I'm guessing you already know this, but for any newbies following this thread...
There are really 2 different types of "loading" with the Sony portable DAT decks:
[1] physically loading the tape into the machine and closing the door
[2] the portable deck's process of loading the tape into a position so it can do it's job: record, play, FF, RW, etc.
You can do [1] anytime. The deck will perform [2]:
[a] immediately after you do [1], or
when you press a function1 button after the deck has gone to "sleep"2
1 STOP, RW, FF, PLAY, REC
2 When running internal batteries: you can manually put the deck in sleep mode by switching the HOLD button. Alternatively, the deck will go into sleep mode automatically after some period of time.
