Depends on the mah of the AA's. 
 I know when I first got my FR-2LE I tried to record a concert with alkaline energizers and got about 45 min run time.

 The R/C 7.2v battery pack is the way to go with this deck IMO. I get 8-9 hour run times with a  4200mAh 6-Cell NiMH Battery pack.

I hade a 3600 and got like six hrs and it fits in the battery case just like the aa sled. The cable can be a tight fit but it works
