I voted good idea and I painted my stand legs day glow ;) I think more people watch out for my stand but I still get the drunk who trips. I bought acrylic primer and green day glow paint from Michaels Art Supplies and I covered the legs w/ packing tape to prevent peeling.

I've got a black mic stand, and I've been wondering if a silver mic stand would get bumped and kicked less.  Is there any anecdotal evidence for one color being better than the other?  I bought black because I thought that it would be better to be low-profile when taping, but I think that I'd rather have a silver one so that people would see it and maybe be quieter around it.

I have both a black and a silver stand. Color doesnt matter IME, it's the footprint that makes all the difference. My 3376 has a HUGE footprint, the 01B, not so big.

Mine's silver and it has been kicked a few times even though I guard it pretty good.
MMDV (My Mileage Doesn't Vary)

I'll bet the paint will peel pretty quickly with the folding/unfolding of the stand.
They also sell glow in the dark power, which you can mix with clear coat or whatever.  I'd probably sand the legs so their nice and rough, prime them, then mix up some lacquer or something with the power and slather it on.  Maybe top-coat with some clear stuff, too

Marking stand legs may be a good idea.
I have never thought it was a good idea to call attention to the rest of a mic stand. The more invisible the better.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

I've been debating this myself. I'm heading to the Wanee Festival in about a month and wondered if somehow marking the top of my stand would keep people from throwing junk its way or make it a target. Also, I want people looking down so they don't step on, trip over or bump into things... not looking up at the pretty lights.

1/2" wide yellow stage striking tape ( 1/2" yellow gaff tape) on black legs stands out like a neon sign, and is easily removable.

They'll just think the stand leg is a glow stick and try and throw it.  I wish I was kidding.

Hey! We know somebody in common!

Actually once I ended up with a guy acting as my blocker after he bumped my stand and felt guilty about it. Sometimes guilt is a wonderful thing.

I've seen people just wrap or tape glowsticks around them, seems cheaper & easier that way, plus if you ever want to be more low profile you can always take them off.

This is what I do if I know I am going to be on a GA floor.  I get the long thin "necklace" types and tape them down the line of the extension.  I also always have a small push button flashlight in my hand and when people start getting near I shine it on the floor to give them a path.
