Neuros HD 20 GB
« on: January 18, 2004, 12:28:47 AM »
The search engine kept timing out, so dont flame me if this has already been posted.

Has anyone heard of this recorder. It seems to have a very dedicated team behind it. In their forums they even discuss the future implementation of Flac.

Here are a few quotes from their site:
"FLAC, an open-source lossless compression codec, was officially adopted in February, 2003, by Xiph.org (see Ogg entry above). As part of our relationship with Xiph, we will be exploring the possibilities of supporting FLAC playback and encoding on the Neuros."

"Yes. With Neuros firmware 1.34 and higher, you can now view recording levels in real time, as well as change gain settings to adjust for a wide variety of signal levels."

Tell me what you think...

Also, here is a site that seems to like the Neuros. Scroll down a little bit and you will see a write-up on it.

Where did you see the part regarding .flac?  All I see supported is mp3 recording?  Interesting if it supports .wav or .flac....

Scroll down a little bit and you will see this question...

Will Neuros support any lossless formats like Shorten or FLAC?

FLAC, an open-source lossless compression codec, was officially adopted in February, 2003, by Xiph.org (see Ogg entry above). As part of our relationship with Xiph, we will be exploring the possibilities of supporting FLAC playback and encoding on the Neuros.

I have a neuros and record orchestra concerts and lessons at wav format.  Works pretty good with my new stereo rodes mic, but needs amplifying in editing.  I've had mine for a year and the battery is wearing out, which sucks cause that means I would have to replace the battery and the memory.  I've had problems also of it not playing mp3's well either.  I would love to be able to hear the quality if I could get a preamp, but it sounds good and has never had any glitches when recording.

I wrote to neuros back in the middle of November asking them if they have any plans on adding
a optical or spdif line in. Their response was no.
I imagine you are stucking using the A/D of this unit with their line in option.
Here's the email I sent.
Needless to say I bought a jb3 instead...

   Hi,
I was wondering if any of the future generations will support
a digital in be it optical or spdif?
I really like the features of this product but
the digital in is something I would and I am sure a lot of others would
appreciate.

I use this one.
It is good for recording, and there is also firmware MOD with nice VU meters and peak indicators with memory.
I have built my own batterypack for it.

I can post there a sample of record if you are interested...

A sample would be real nice.

I've been reading about this recorder. Looks like it may be a little easier to get into gigs than the JB3, size is deffitly an issue.

Thanx!

Hello,

I've just recently purchased the Neuros unit and am going to try and record my first show this week.  I've got a small pre-amp with the basic "high" "low" gain.  I'm looking for some advice as to where to set the gain control.  This is going to be a "stealth" situation so I'm not going to be able to play with the settings too much.

Any advice is appreciated!

TIA

Oh please! - the JB3 is plenty small to stealth - not even as wide as a CD -

...how easy do you guys want it?

Sorry - old school rant...

Just surfing a little...  this was up as of this morning...

FYI Y'all

FLAC support imminent: Sean Starkey, creator of Neuros Database Manager (NDBM), has undertaken the task of writing FLAC (free lossless audio codec) support to the current Neuros firmware. He has Neuros Audio's full support and has been caught claiming that he may have decoding and encoding written within a month.
