HTC Wildfire be used as a recorder?
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:34:10 AM »
Hey all and thanks again for a wonderful informative site.

I got a HTC Wildfire as a christmas present and my question is, can it be used as a recorder?, for live music shows to be specific.
If so, any good programs to use for it you can recommend.
Noticed when browsing the Soundprofessionals page that when purchasing  mics from there you could get them customized for the iphone or the htc.

I got a good recorder already but if it can be used no harm in trying .

As with all phones, I'd only do it as a last resort. For giggles, two of us took a set of CA-14s (w/ battery box) and tried with a new iphone and it sounded better than the internals, but not by much. The ADC is crap since it's not designed for this purpose so they cut corners on the cost. If there was a pre-amp that exported to micro usb, that would resolve like 3/4ths of the issues. Someone could program a capture program easily enough, but getting the signal sent via usb (without requiring real interaction which would entail drivers) would be the kicker.

On that note, there was some talk about using a USBPre2 with an ipad as long as you could provide power elsewhere since the ipad underpowers the usb devices that are connected and SD noted it as such.
"This is a common practice we have on the bus; debating facts that we could easily find through printed material. It's like, how far is it today? I think it's four hours, and someone else comes in at 11 hours, and well, then we'll... just... talk about it..." - Jeb Puryear
