CPU Overload (Win 7) multitrack Recording in Cubase 4 LE
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:14:45 AM »
I get random CPU overloads when recording with Cubase 4 LE. I have a new laptop, Windows 7, over 200 GB free drive sppace, all the plug-ins disabled, McAfee on-access scan disabled, wireless off. The CPU usage is low, ( The program with the highest usage is Cubase) but I'm getting "spikes" on the CPU usage resulting in overloads. How can I determine what is causing this?
Any help would be appreciated.

32 bit software on 64 bit machine is your problem
upgrade to 6 and skip 5

6 is ok on 64
or
do what im doing
im running 5 on  win xp in virtual pc mode on a  win 7 64 home edition laptop
with 12 gb of ddr memmory but i can only use 4 gb of it max in 32 bit enviroment
that sucks but its still plenty- it runs smooth as

all my vst work and so do earlier editions of cubase
it was an effort i will admit to set it all up
but worth it

Thanks for the info. I did not know that version was 32 bit. That makes sense. I really appreciate the input!

Did he specify that it's a 64-bit machine?  Not all Win7 installations are 64-bit.
