Call me stupid but I was wonderin' what the 3 position switch does on my Studio Projects C4's. I understand more or less what -10db does but I don't get the other 2 positions. They read as:
__ 1/st position
__ 2/nd position
/
-10dB 3/rd position
Peace

Start with the first position - the one that is just a straight line. The straight line indicates there is no manipulation of the frequency response of the mic. Most people run their mics this way.
The second position is to engage the high-pass filter (a.k.a. "bass rolloff") - use this if you find your recordings are too boomy/bassy.
The third position is an attenuator with will lower the signal going from your mics into your preamp. Only use the attenuator if you're brickwalling your preamp (you'll hear distortion even when you keep your recording levels below 0).

Thanks man! Hey, I sure miss Brent and when I see your avater I remember all the good times this TouchHead had. For me the band stopped producin' good shows after the summer of 90' but I still went up to 92' and then I moved to Costa Rica.
