Are DAT tapes worth the money?
« on: July 30, 2004, 07:47:40 PM »
Are DAT tapes worth the extra 2$ per tape or should I run DDS.  I'll I have ever taped on is DAT so I'm wondering if DDS is comparable in sound quality.  Is there and audible difference?  I'm running low on tapes and thought I'd run it by you guys before I order more.

This has been debated at length.  I would do a search here and also in the DAT Heads mailing list archive.

I would say they are not worth the extra $ .  I have been using DDS tapes since I started taping in 96 and have had almost no tape related problems.

There's no audible difference - the debate centers around reliability/durability/error-free-ness, and has been inconclusive since the dawn of time. ;)

depends on your deck....my trashcan doesn't like Sony DDS tapes...loved all the audio grade DAT tapes, occasional problems with the Maxell DDS tapes
