Topic: Anyone Use the RadioShack AD Converter?

I have one...used it when I first got my jb3...just to get flying...

I ran it with my Sony D5 as the preamp and some Audio-Technica Condenser mics (817)

Looking back - I probably was running the D5 too hot...as if it was recording on cassette...I forget if that red peak light is +3 or +5...There are clips in the louder songs...not nasty ones...but clips none the less...

To be honest - I cant tell much about the sound...my computer is making so much noise - I cant tell how this sounds...

I can't get mine to work. I haven't tried it with recording gear, but with an Aiwa stereo and a Panasonic VCR, recording into a Zoltrix Nightingale optical in. It seems to be putting both channels into the left channel, and in CDWave there is nothing on the top half above the center line, and nothing but huge distortion/overloading in the bottom half. I tried switching plugs around, making sure it was plugged into its own outlets with the computer and stereo plugged into separate places, but it didn't help.

No. That is a format converter (coax > opt) - - the device in question is an A/D converter...the link is in the original post...

I am a little confused, if I can figure this out it would be so sweet. How would I hook up my mics (with SP-SPSB-6 Battery Box) up to this converter. Isn't this LIKE the AD-20 in theory. The BB terminates into a 1/8" plug as we know. How would I go about doing something like this?

So is this just converting the analog signal to optical to feed into the JB3?   Yeah, for only 25 bucks I dunno if this would be much better than just using the internal A/D on the JB3 to save you a step.   But who knows....would be interesting to do a comparision to see how it does stack up vs. the JB3 A/D.

It only accepts line level - RCA inputs...so you would need preamp...

There is no peak light on this thing..

The ad-20 has balanced inputs and level contols..i.e. it has an integrated preamp...

i'll prob just stick to the jb3's ad converter, as caymanreview said, no sense in going from an expensive pre to a $24 ad.
