JB3 Battery Question..(Playback)
« on: February 15, 2005, 05:11:50 PM »
So I got a 2nd Jb3 off Ebay to do Matrix's with, and to just use as an mp3 player (I don't have anything on my other 20 GB Jb3, purely for taping). The auction didn't say anything about a battery but I got one (so now i have 3 total). I've been using this one I got with the 2nd Jb3 and I think something is up. Jb3 claims 11 hours continous play, but I have yet gotten that. I can fully charge the battery, but then it seems I only get 4-5 hours at the max, and then I get the LOW BATTERY screen and the JB3 shuts down. Funny thing is though, when I go to charge it, I see the charger indicator displaying 2 bars (with the other batteries in my taping JB3, they always fully drain and then fully charge back up no problem). Any ideas, why I am getting these two bars, and why I get the low battery screen? Maybe an old battery already, should I try the "smack," method recommended by corkscrew?

Thanks all.

4-5 hours on one JB3 battery is pretty normal, from my experience. 10-12 with two batteries.

Playback for real?

Then why do the boast the 11 hours continous playback, when you see those specs?

And why do you think I get two bars everytime I plug into charge?

Thanks for the response though.

"In theory, theory and practice are the same.  In practice, they're not."

Because those specs are produced by lying and scheming marketers, not techies.  A general rule of thumb for battery powered devices:  cut the published run-time in in half.

Probably because the JB3 has 2 battery slots...

2 X 5.5 = 11 - seems about right...

actually it says it can do 22 hours with two batteries.

note that the time is listed for playback of 128kbs mp3s (i do believe) - recording time and playback of other formats will put more strain on the batteries.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

Since an mp3 is a smaller file - it would require fewer harddrive seeks and less action overall -

That might be it...

yep, but i still think 22 hours out of those batteries is stretching it.  maybe when they're brand new, but i don't think i could get that out of 'em anymore.
