first time ive ever seen a pair used on agon.
well..this is what he has.  x2, being monoblocks.
:)...
thats the drool, btw.

Mahi on steroids, sort of.
BTW, I'm demoing the Portal as I type.
Dual mono, Darlington Switching transistors, gets a sort of tube-like sound without any compression component.
If that makes sense...

It has a very serious, controlled bottom.
Sweet midrange (honest)
It is a bit present and the very top end  "breathes-out" just the tinest bit.
Very impressive.
Definitely not as sweet as the Mahi-Mahi.

I'd like to see the Snappers in a practical application and in proportion to other gear.
One of my main concerns with true dual mono (was considering old Dynaco Mk III or Mk IV) is the logistics.
Mostly, I'd like a pic to show the OL how artistic and attractive they can be in the den.
The eternal battle for music vs. appearance.
The Manley gear is "deco pretty" and with the right stand/ shelf and associated furniture / art it could be a focal in a room.

If you don't see the contradiction in those two statements, you need help ;-)

Or maybe I do.

I have a pair of MK IVs, they're really not that big, maybe 5x12x6h  They sound nice, but for ease i brought one of ST-70s to the new apt, MK-IVs went to storage.
SB2 / Rega P1 > Modified Dynaco PAS2 > Modified Dynaco MK-IV monoblocks> Axiom M22 v2

We're back up and running since last Monday.  I guess I should have paid more attention to the manual...

well...how do they sound?

They sound great!  Extremely accurate and very fast - surprising for an all tube set-up.  I switched out all my interconnects and speaker cables as well, so the system is a little bright, but hopefully it will settle in with a few more hours of playback.  The imagaing with the 4jr's is sickening, the sound just appears in the center.  Pretty amazing when you consider I have the 4jr's split about 10 - 12 feet.  Overall, couldn't be happier with the new gear...
