studio projects c1 windjammers.. ?
« on: May 09, 2007, 02:50:00 PM »
Hello all,
I was just doing some field recordings last wekend, and it seems that for the place im from (Ireland) typical foamy windscreens might not be enough.
What i have is a pair of studio project's c1 which i use to record stereo, but i can hear unwanted wind  noise in recordings.
i pressume that i should avoid very windy conditions anyway, but its not that simple on this bloody island.

i was trying to do some research but it seems to me that those fancy fluffy windjammers are typically available for shotguns / standard mic sizes.and c1's are rather big,  im not sure if theres any designated windjammer for those, but with a little bit of advice i would even consider doing my own one. why not.

any kind of help woul de appreciated, dear tapers.

Thanks in advance.

I think one reason you may find it hard to find larger dead cats for the C1 is that it is designed to be a studio mic... I am not saying you won't see people using them outdoors... it just isn't designed for that... I have seen several clever individuals on this forum DIY sets for their LD mics though... They tend to call them "dead rats" here... so you might try searching on that term as well as "dead cat".

Rycote makes wind systems for mics... "Please note: If your microphone does not appear in either of the lists above, please contact us, as we may be able to help." http://www.rycote.com

I did not see nay LD mics on their list... send them a note with the dimensions, maybe they have a model that will work with your mics.

here are som DIY sites...

hope that helps.

thanks for that.
i was tryin to search for dead rats before but the amount of threads and information on the board overwhelms and scares me :) in agood way of course.

anyway, i know studio projects are not really designed to be an outdoor mic, but they work very well, and apart from the wind issues
i think the sound quality is very very good.

i was thinking about DIY, normally i would prefer to do that anyway, but  for some reason i couldnt find any DIY on web. seems like i didnt knew where to look for it either :)

anyway, thanks for helpful reply, surely i wil take my time to browse throught that links you gave me.

+t as well as soon as im able to give them :)
thanks

Check this thread as well....  http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,84716.0.html
Some folks are saying you don't really want dead rats, just some appropriate fabric.  There was a pic I saw recently somewhere where a guy stuck his socks over his mics.
