Shock Mounting Church Audio mics (with clamps)
« on: August 25, 2007, 01:22:20 AM »
So, a little while back, i put together this pretty makeshift stand setup...

http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,80942.msg1076529.html#msg1076529

It works fairly good, but i have always been curious of ways to shockmount my setup. I am still a semi noob, and though the idea of a shockmount seems pretty self explanitory, do most of you guys things that it is a fairly important aspect of your recording setup, or just a nice added feature?

Don't get me wrong my little DIY t-bar works fine, i have made some excellent recordings (i mostly just point the mics at the stacks, or as close to 90 degrees as i can eyeball), but i have not been able to make any of the many DIY church audio mic stand setups because my mics have the little alligator clips attached to them. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Or do you think i should just stick with what i have?

thanks,

josh

Hey man, I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm trying to rig up a DIY mount for mine with some PVC. I wanted the clips, but they do provide a challenge. rWc3523

I don't have the Church cards but I made a DIN bar using 1/2 PVC for my HLSC-1s and I'm using a Joe Meeks JM-27 shockmount.  Maybe you could notch out the side of the PVC to able to slide the clips into the pipe?

Firebaugh, That's exactly what I was thinking. Unfortunately, I don't have the tools (and sometimes the patience) to do it. I have some ideas, but taking them from my head to reality is another thing :P ;D

Chris, the cards and amp arrived Saturday. Thanks,  rWc3523 8)

that notch idea sounds like it might work, i just need to find an easy way to cleanly cut PVC. The attached alligator clamps are so great for stealthing, but limit the choices for stand mounts.

I used a tiny hacksaw then just sanded the ends. rWc3523 8)

I used a Dremel knock off to cut slits down the side of my PVC bar for the wires to slide through.  I'll try to take some pictures tonight.
