no, my point is that 96kHz is absolutely useless.  you can't hear it.  there is NOTHING in the air (PA recording) that makes use of it.
garranteed, i'd bet my stereo on it...that you couldn't pick out 24/96 from 24/48 or 24/44.1 in a blind test.

thats all.
Having had the ability to do 96kHz, and doing it for a few years..., that was my final conclusion.  YMMV I suppose.   If you are convinced that you can hear the difference and that it is worth throwing money at it...., then knock yourself out.
I say a nice upsampling DAC does just as good.

Interesting considering all of the magic in DSD is the sheer number of samples per second in creating/recreating the sine wave.  Well that an no decimation/interpolation filter  ;)

Keep in mind that while the sampling frequency cut in half is a good rule of thumb for capturing that range of audio the added samples do other things.
Yes, but what do you HEAR?

ah, DSD is just a different beast.
if you could sample in the 300+kHz range, that might be worth while for what you mention.
but the mere addition of 48000 more samples doesnt do shit.

would you disagree ?

Not 100% certain... I should really go to the bank and take out a loan, I could use some better playback equipment. This really needs more testing with the appropriate gear!!   >:D

I love the response though, what crossed my mind initially was... 24/48->24/96 not notable improvement perhaps,  what about 24/48 -> 24/192?

yes, perhaps.  but even that is not a giant step up.  New generation over sampling DACs are upsampling to 300+kHz..I forgot the actual number, but i've read the specs on a few DACs that do this.

precisely why i do it. ii dont claim to be able to hear over 20K, but

1)more data more accurately represents an analog waveform
2)why not run my equipment at its highest resolution? obviously doubling again to 192K is really diminishing returns, but aside from non-squeezebox compatability, i have no technical limitations preventing me from recording at 24/96

then a good DVD-A deck solves your problems.

Personaly, I like the whole idea of using a PC as the source.  no hassles.  no discs to burn.  no extra software to pirate..er, buy.

a $20 chainteck card and a nice DAC.
done.
The DAC will come in handy for other things too.  run your cable into it...your DVD, CDs..etc.

i have a chaintech card, but its kind of a hassle to use with kernel streaming.
i need to manually select the sample rate everytime i change the source frequency, and it resets to 48k everytime i reboot.

what driver/envy control panel are you using?

I only have to change it when switching to anything above 48k then back.  It does 16/24-44.1/48 on it's own.
