So my older Adcom GDA 600 sounds great with CD's or DAT's, but isn't 24/96 capable. What happens when DVDa is played thru it? A 24/96 signal will pass thru it and the 600 detects it, but what happens to the signal? Should I bypass the 600 when listening to DVDa?

I would guess it probably truncates the signal to 16 bit/ 44.1 or 48 KHz.
Probably best to bypass and play the analog signal from the DVD-a player to the preamp.
