Topic: Shure E2c headphones

Anyone have experience with these? They're on sale @ amazon for $40 shipped.

that's a great price, so for $40 I would want one as an everyday set.
I bought mine because I wanted to try a pr of in ear isolated earphones.
it's four years old already and still working great, it's very durable and rugged.
I've stepped on them and yanked them. the wires are thicker than your usual earbuds
and you have to hook the cable behind your ears to fit them in properly.
Sound? eh? I'll be the first to tell you I have tin ears. I just enjoy music not
break it down into organic matter. how much critical listen can I do when on the
subway or bus?

Yes.  I have a pair of these.  They're good.  For $40 you won't be disappointed.  I use them mostly while travelling.

I travel a lot and bought a pair of the Bose active noise cancelling headphones a few years ago.  Shortly after that I bought a pair of Etymotic ER-4p's to use with my rig at shows.  It didn't take me long to figure out that the Etymotics sound a lot better than the Bose and they do a better job of noise cancelling.   I haven't used the Bose headphones in a long time now.

A while ago I got sick of not remembering to transfer my ER-4ps between my laptop bag and my recording gear.  So, I bought a pair of Shure E2c headphones.  The E2cs aren't quite as good as the ER-4ps but they are much less expensive and are very close.  Now I keep the Shures in my travel bag and the Etymotics in my recording gear.

Also, I find the foam earplugs much more comfortable than the plastic ones.  I think these headphones come with both kinds.

Buy a pair of the E2cs for $40.  You'll be glad you did.

I own a pair of E2cs for a year and I'm very satisfied. They sound clear and detailed, are very well built and are highly customizable in terms of earplugs (they are shipped with two different sets of plastic plugs + foam plugs, each one in three different sizes).
IMHO for $ 40 it's too bad to miss them.

remember to get their new packaging with the black soft flexi plastic ear plugs
not the clear silicone looking one's. Those are very comfortable.
I bought a cheap set of Sennheiser earplugs and now I know why I hate them
the plastic pressing on the cartilage of my ear gives me a dull pain at the area.

since mine are soooo old, I opened up the sound port a bit by cutting the tube down.
You don't really need to do that, there's a plastic washer inside, you remove that restriction
and it's the same opening up the port. supposedly this gives it some highs.

I love my e2c's, I found them to be very source dependent though.  They sounded "eh, ok" with my iriver portables, but "wow, these are great" with my rio karma.

 I wound up passing them down to my fiancee since I moved up to the se530's.

great price.  I paid $90 for mine.
and....I hate them.  so go figure.

for that price its a steal though.
they sound great, I just didn't like the way they fit in my ears.

I own E4c's (thanks Shure! ) and sell their whole line... here is the thing... You have to reallly get those suckers in your ear to get decent bass respose. The clearest improvment as you move up the line is in the bass area, followed by size and comfort. The E2c's are a great buy at 40 bucks but you just have to be sure you can deal with having the phones really crammed in your ear.

I thought the bass response was great, but again, their very source dependent and yeah, you definitely need to jam them up in their for a good seal.  If your not getting a good bass response, they weren't inserted properly (its a common complaint on head-fi until people get a good seal).  I also found them to be a big painful at times thanks to the foamies hardening in the winter cold. 

Shures are known to be warm, but suffer from high frequency roll off.
