Reusing miniXLR?
« on: June 05, 2007, 04:10:44 PM »
I have a bad cable here that i'd like to extract the miniXLRm so i could make a new one. I've messed around with it gently, but i'm affraid to tear the pins out... anyone here who's cheap enough that tried this in the past? ;D

I've done it.  It's touchy.  Heat the solder that's there and use a desolder bulb.  Those pins are way to small for my typical, "it's all in the wrist" technique.  I also wouldn't be surprised if these things decide to break soon.  I've had terrible fortune with mine.  But good luck.

+t for the input. yeah, that's what i thought initially (heating the solder prior to removal). I don't want the pins to break in the future, so i'm not going that way. I'll figure out another way to reuse them.

not not so much breaking the pin, but over heating it will cause it to fall right out of the plastic housing.
just be careful.

and if you need to order a new one, ebay is cheapest.
