Kodak ZI8 - Fix for drop-outs when importing?
« on: December 02, 2010, 01:50:55 PM »
Hello everyone

I'm just getting started recording video. I recently purchased a Kodak zi8 pocket camcorder and I'm quite happy with it. However, one problem I have is that when I import the files and join them in my video editor (TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4) I get drop-outs in between them, which are not present when I playback the video in the camera itself. The zi8 seems to split video into 2gb files and somehow produce drop-outs near the end of each file when imported. I've tried cutting/crossfading a few miliseconds to fix the problem, but I wonder if there is any other way I could import the video that will avoid this drop-outs issue -while keeping the quality, of course-.

Any help would be appreciated. Here's a clip of what I recorded (it was actually recorded in 1080p and then cut to 720 for zooming purposes -mic sensitivity set at its lowest-):

Thanks in advance

Did the camera come with any software? Some cameras require specific software to join clips together without a short gap...

just got a zi8 as well for the baby.  it saves as h264 .mov files.  the software it includes is pretty worthless.  looking for options for simple fades etc.  I use vegas but not sure how to render the .mov without loosing quality.
