Title: So my Soundprofessionals battery box fell apart...
Post by: George on March 07, 2004, 02:49:01 PM
As i was gearing up to leave the house to tape Better than ezra my mini battery box module literally broke into two pieces and now i'm in the market for another mini battery module with bass rolloff.  Am i stuck with sound professionals (i already contacted them for repair or replacement but would like to try another company out) or is there any other companies that build such tiny battery modules for decent prices?  Any help is appreciated as always  ;)

better go with a SP, but get the SP-SPSB-1 this time. Much studier and the SP boxes are made specifically for the mics.

Or, contact this dude http://webpages.charter.net/dlzpayne/ and see what he can do.  He makes battery boxes, says he can make them for DPA406Xs so maybe the SPs as well?

Cool link!  I have the sp-spsb-1 already, it's a great box but a little more difficult to sneak in, typically will need a second person to walk in with it while i get the mics and dat into the venue.  I contacted sp about replacing/repairing the battery box and will definitely contact the person at the link you provided to see if they can build a box that's identical to the sp-spsb-6, thanks again ;)

LOL...sorry man, my dat takes up whatever available space i have in my crotch, LOL!  Well, sp contacted me today via and they will fix or replace the box free of charge, that's service for you!  I have sneaking my mics in down pat as well (either in my sock or wrapped around my waist inside my pants.  The mini battery module is pretty easy to sneak in but the normal sized one is freggin heavy for the sock trick.

I have trialed them at an open taping show so far just to make sure they work (since I shortened the cables down to 7 feet to make it easier on me for stealthing), but nothing major yet.  I will be giving them a full run at the Charlotte Center City Fest at the beginning of May at the latest!

FWIW, Sound Pro's are very good at repairing/replacing their defective products. I have a metal battery box of theirs which started rusting(!) on the inside near the battery. They told me to just send it back and they would replace it. Of course, I've been too lazy to actually mail it yet. ;)

wrapping things in saran wrap too helps keep unmentionables from getting cut on rough edges, as well as sanitary benefits 8)

Do you know how your crotch smells?  Damn, you must be flexible!  Regardless, I don't want to find out.  And I remember a thread long ago that brought up the thought of buying a used DAT deck, only to find stray hair hidden away.  Ick.

HAHA.  Quick update, the battery module is coming back my way...of course i plan on doing a full inspection and testing (dropping the module three flights should do the trick ;))

Seriously, can't wait to get it back...even though i plan on upgrading my mics to phantom power...maybe i should invest in a second pair of soundpro mic body (minus the element) so i can use the mini batt module when need be.

get the mod so you can do both!

Hmm, there's another mod to have the mics be used by both phantom power and the mini battery module?  Based on the email i got from soundpro, once i go with the phantom upgrade that's all i can use is phantom power.

well, I don't know if they will do this mod post-purchase, but it is the $100 adapter kit mod, comes with the adapters for 48V phantom and another 1/8" mini adapter for battery power

Snazzy.  Well, i think i'll stick with phantom power for now...time to figure out which preamp is for me, some peeps have recommended some cool looking ones.  Oh, i got the battery box back (well, it looks like a new one to me), feels much sturdier than the last one, hopefully it'll last.  I was thinking of trying the at831's as a stealth rig.
