Title: Streaming from computer to outdoor bluetooth speakers
Post by: daspyknows on June 07, 2020, 07:09:48 PM
I was asked by a friend how to stream music from computer to outside speakers.  Music stored on computer hard drive (s) and distance to speakers less than 50 feet.  Willing to purchase "some" hardware to accomplish the task.  Any suggestions/recommendations.

My computer to my patio is too far, so this is how i do it.
I use JRiver Media Center on my computer, i connect with JRemote on my phone via wifi,
stream the signal to my phone, then bluetooth to speaker on patio.
The phone app is $10
The computer app is $25

Easy solution...put a bunch of stuff on your phone, then bluetooth to speaker directly!

subsonic! www.subsonic.org

is $1/mo

pc becomes server, phone app or any web browser for access. Unlimited bandwidth and users. Lots of access and control options. for instance I give streaming access to facebook friends, and full D/L & U/L to a few members here who track and seed for me. As long as you have unlimited data or wifi is all good. After quick buffer will even stream 24/96 flac

Been user for years. Love it.

Interesting.  So do you leave your computer on non-stop for this to work?

The days of me leaving a computer on 24x7 are over. I don't even do bit torrent from a local computer any longer - can't believe I didn't move to a seedbox earlier.

Depending on his set up these would work. Just to let you know I do not own either of these so no real world experience.

This is a small wifi and bluetooth amp

does the computer have built in bluetooth ?

usb dongles are pretty cheap. i used to have one so i could pair a headset to the PC for SIP calls

bluetooth installed on my NUC motherboard but i have never used it

seems many options under $20

Max distance for Bluetooth is 33 ft (according to the standard), so that's not going to work for his buddy.

Is there a power outlet within reach of the speakers? I use Apple Airport Express base stations, which have 1/8" stereo outs, for my remote indoor speakers.

I will pass this thread along.  I think the dayton audio solution is what he has in mind.

what are you using? i like cheapseedboxes but $15/mo adds up. i feel like i could be splitting it as i eventually pull stuff down locally

I use seedbox.io - 5 euro/mo (about $5.75) for 300GB of disk space, 100 Mbit speed, unlimited bandwidth. All ready to go with rtorrent loaded. I offload stuff to local via SFTP as I want to listen or watch. At those speeds, it comes down in a couple minutes. I've been happy for less than $6/mo. If I pay for a year in advance, it comes down to 4 euro/mo. I'll probably do that now that I've had it for 6 months and found it works for me.

This is my referral link (I do get a little something if someone signs up. No idea how much - I just activated it.)

And sorry for the OT derailment of the thread. It is the TS way, after all.

Used to leave on 24/7, but now Alexa covers the on/off duty for me.
