Topic: Mic Array Positioners

I was doing some research and stumbled on this site.... has anyone used any of these products (I am sure someone has)....

I think the pricing looks to be better than a Schoeps or DPA similar product... the protractor (picture) was something I would have really wanted starting out..

I bought one of these but I find the spacing is too small for anything other than XY
but the protractor is handy

I was doing research on Decca Trees and some of the other products on the page caught my eye as well.

the spacing on the AEA stereo bar is 11.5 cm
is too close for spec ORTF or DIN
which needs a ~17 cm spread
there are other (wider) stereo bars that might better suit your needs
if you intend to do ORTF or DIN patterns

if you need a protractor for positioning your mics:
download this:

then buy yourself a cheap protractor at a dollar store somewhere
and take your stereo bar and some paper tape
and mark off the angles with the protractor onto a small piece of paper tape stuck to your bar
per the diagrams on the config template
label it ORTF or DIN or whatever
this way you can switch patterns by aligning the mics according to the marks

Er - it's the microphone *capsules* that need to be 17cm apart for ORTF - *not* the mounting points.

So, an 11.5cm mount spacing is about perfect for capsules at 17cm spacing.
