Copy of the ums20 Schoeps bar?
« on: September 24, 2008, 07:04:59 AM »
It is really expencive for what it is.

http://www.schoeps.de/D-2004/ums20.html

But I have a normal stereo bar, and always have trouble setting up my schoeps for ORTF or DIN...

So, I wouldnt want to waste a lot of money for just a bar, and I need the very same functionality of that bar?

Thanks

there are some options, i cant remember the name, nick told me about it a month ago, he had a picture with 4 mics mounted.

the ums20 come up now and again for $300 used, which is still expensive but its a fine piece of machinery

Yes, the Sabra-Som mount is probably the most similar.  It's still pretty different though, and I don't believe it has any of the markings the Schoeps bar has.

well, the schoeps bar actually has detents that snap into place, not just markings

The ums-20 is quite expensive but IMO worth it. I picked one up a few years back and love it. For quick setups you can be dialed in to ORTF, DIN, DIN-A, etc. in seconds. My recordings have definitly improved because it is so easy to set the mics up perfectly - I have been in a  hurry or had an off-day and this has saved me.

It's just too cool for skool ;D

There are better bars than the Schoeps - but they are more expensive, not cheaper.

i have something similar but never finished it. i do have bars on the reail space that do the same thing but they are not  engraved. i would do so but it would increase price. is what it is. my machining center was 70,000 new and i cos money to run the machines and to keep the shop 72 degrees a all times.
if there were an inerest i would alter the wide bars with a scale and could actually make a sliding riser at a perfect 90 and 110 degrees.

Wes Dooley of AEA also offers a few bad ass stereo bars. Pricey but still less expensive than the schoeps version.
