SBM-1 or ART DI/O paired with PDAudio perhaps?
« on: December 08, 2003, 11:49:36 PM »
OK, so I am a cheap MF who loves gadgets and here is what I want to do: Build a Stealth PDAudio system.

What I have thus far:
> Ipaq 3835 w/ dual slot CF +bat. expansion pack
> 5mb memory (in above slots)
> SP-CMC*'s (AT Hyper Cards - On the way from Mark, Thanks man!)
> SP Pre-Amp w/ Bass Rolloff for above
> No real want to drop $500 on the Mic2496 until I'm sure the PDA's for me

What I plan to get if this desparte gambit to save bank works:
>> The PDAudio-CF
>> The Wichita or other recomended softies

What I would like to know 'cause of said Cheap Skate issue:
>>> Would either the ART DIO or the SBM-1 ADC work well enough o save me 400 bones?
>>> Are there any other handheld ADC's out there capable of such feats?
>>> Finally, are either of the aforementioned ADC's powered by say a 9 Volt Battery per chance?

So the final setup would look like this:
SP-CMC8's>batbox>SBM-1 "or" ART DIO>PDAudio-CF>Ipaq 3835

Any thoughts, advice or ridicule is open encouraged!!!

Thanks,
72HW

A special note to all TS members - THANK YOU!!!

Having recently been infected once again with the need to hit the Rec button but having marginal gear to use, I have found an incredible amount of valid, straight forward advice and nearly Sage-like guidance here. I hope to be able to repay the kindness sooner than later with the "72HW Is A Cheap Bastard Guide To PDA Boots"......not to mention some nice tapes! ;-)

Let there be songs......

I'm not familiar with the ART, but the SBM-1 for sure would work in your situation - compact, nice sound.  It's powered by 4 AAs.  I used to run rechargables in mine and get 4-6 hours out of 'em.  Let us all know how it goes with the PDAudio setup!

the AD/20 would work, but you would need a bulky miniplug - XLR adapter....

So I wonder how this little goat works. Certianly not the Core Audio ADC, nor a MiniMe, but for the price? Hehehe.....

Getting the price down lower on the PDAudio setup, hope it works OK at very least!
