What is going on with my Nagra SD? - take a listen
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:29:37 PM »
Hi all. I recently starting have problems with my Nagra SD (with green strip mic).  It is intermittently making popping/crackling/buzzing noises.  It's not constant but enough to mess up several recordings.

Any ideas what this could be?  I sent a note to Nagra but they haven't replied.

Here's an example:

I sounds like a bad connection on the mic plug, can you reproduce the noise
if you wiggle or tap the mic ?

Try cleaning the plugs with contact cleaner.

If you have a tie clip mic with the correct plug, try that and see if it
clears the problem.

Thanks. Great advice.  Plugging in external mic -- no problem.  Seems to be the mic capsule.
