For all Sony portables (D7/8/100/M1):
Tip = hot (+)
Ring = ground (-)
D7/D8 take 6v external power.
D100/M1 take 4.5v external power.
If you're using a 4-pin XLR to hook up to an external 6v battery for the D7/D8, use the following pin assignments:
Pin 3 = hot (+)
Pin 2 = ground (-)
