I have quite a few dats from 01 and 02 that are all messed up ultrasonically like and not hi fi . Whats with this baking of old school reels of analog, and can this be done w dats?

they are mostly sony dds1 tapes w the problems.

Are you sure its your DATs and not your player??? I had a friend tell me his DATs were shot, but they played just fine in my Deck... Turns out his Deck needed a tune-up...

we'll see after I get another deck. It seems 03,04 and on are fine.

Next question I have is: are any of those PH or related???

Find a gently-used Sony PCM-R500; it is a full-head deck (or some other full-head) as opposed to something like a Tascam DA20-MKII (half-head).
I have one of both, and the Sony will read everything the Tascam won't. The Tascam is fast becoming the "rewind mule" around here....

Yes, T, a grip of them are TAB and a few Vida Blue. I havent played them yet. Still Going through PLF n Ratdog. And a sick Primus from 03.
I'm using a Sony PCM-M1, Oade concert mod. Really the DDS-1's I taped 03 and after are mostly ok.
