Title: Akai EIE - another 4-channel sound card (announced at NAMM)
Post by: sunjan on January 14, 2011, 05:40:58 AM
Too clunky/boxy to look good in my gearbag, but maybe OK for desktop use?!

The marketing babble call it a "portable solution", go figure... ::)
No MSRP yet.

The updated model AKAI EIE Pro was just announced at Summer NAMM.
6 VDC powering, so it's good for field use in theory at least!  ;D
The dip switches and analog VU meters are vintage cool...

The previous EIE (non-pro) retails for $193, so I expect this to be a bit more.

    * USB audio interface with up to 24-bit recording resolution supporting all standard sample rates (44.1kHz/48kHz/88.2kHz/96kHz)
    * Four XLR-1/4" combo jacks with phantom power and gain control
    * Four nickel-plated 1/4" outputs
    * Two classic, high-quality VU level meters with switchable sources and RED peak LEDS
    * Three additional USB ports for connecting other devices through to a computer
    * 5 Pin DIN MIDI Interface
    * Headphone output with switchable source and direct monitoring dial
    * Table-top, solid construction with a great-looking, classic design
