SD 722/744 (Compact Flash Question) >>
« on: September 12, 2006, 01:51:54 PM »
So for those of you who have the 722/744, has anyone used the Compact Flash card?  Last weekend I tried to use it, by letting a friend pop the 8gig card into his 744 at setbreak, mostly for comparison of sources, and it seemed to work.  The next day when I got the '2nd' card out and tried listening to it, there was nothing.

Anyone use a card and a harddrive, as redundant back-up?  It seems like a real easy way to patch, or compare sources.

Thoughts/Ideas?

i gave a guy some patches at wakarusa directly to his CF card while also writing to the HD. worked great, didn't notice much more power drainage but didn't test to see actual differences. great way to give someone an effortless patch. probably would be a good idea for backups as well. i've been thinking about grabbing some CF cards when there are killer deals to use instead of the HDD from time to time.

you were able to get one card to work but not another? perhaps a formatting issue?

i believe you can still transfer to that CF card using the 744

see that's the thing, it looks good but when i got home, nothing on the card.

it had been formatted in my hd-p2, and i assumed it wouldn't cause any problems for the 744.

having not had too much experience with the menu on the SD boxes, can someone shed some light on how to navigate to that selection.
i'll try the manual too, but it would be nice to know how to do it, because that was the first question that i didn't know the answer to in a while!

I've used 2, 4 & 6GB cards without issue.  Another option is to just copy the files to the CF card after the show.  There is a setting to "copy last 24 (or 48) hrs", so you don't have to go through and "tag" the files prior to copying.

craig,

did you use the CF and the HD, at the same time?  i am 99% sure it can be written at the same time, but i am not sure

yes, this can be done.  i write to both the CF (4gb) and HD all the time.  it's a nice feeling knowing you have a backup of sorts should one or the other go down.  haven't tested how much drain it puts on the battery but my guess is it's negligible.

the 744 settings (or 722)

yes, there is a setting to record to HDD and CF at the same time.  I've done it several times and it works great.
